Volunteer Habitat for Humanity of Taos is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majority have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership. Habitat volunteers contribute more than muscle. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. With a minimal staff, Habitat for Humanity of Taos depends upon volunteer committees for support with projects like Family Selection, Family Support, Public Relations, Construction Skills Training, and Volunteer Services. We also offer opportunities in our ReStore, a volunteer-run building materials recycling center. We invite volunteers to help us build, assist in the office, work in the ReStore, serve on committees, and help with special projects that benefit the organization. Time commitments vary; some volunteers dedicate every day of the week to Habitat for Humanity of Taos and others spend just a few hours each month working on projects or in the ReStore. As a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Taos, you can choose to volunteer as little or as often as you would like. All of these positions are a tremendous help that directly or indirectly result in the construction of simple, decent homes. Our house sites need volunteers at all levels of skill, from no skill at all to experienced contractors, and are open to volunteers wishing to participate. We schedule work groups during the week and on Saturdays. Please call the office at 575-758-7827 to confirm a date and time for your volunteer work. Habitat for Humanity in Taos offers a unique building experience as we build with vigas and adobe, a traditional southwestern style of architecture. Volunteers learn from participating in various phases of construction at multiple house sites. If you can work, from construction to fundraising, we can use you. Please contact the office‚ Habitat needs you! Our Volunteers are not only local, but also come from all over the United States and even from other countries of the world. Several groups have come as a part of Habitat for Humanity International.
Collegiate ChallengeMany groups come from high schools and colleges and work on Habitat houses during their winter, spring, and summer breaks. These volunteers are outstanding groups of young people from across the country that give of themselves in order to build homes for our low-income families throughout the United States. Call Habitat for Humanity International at 1-800-422-4828 x 2215 for more information.

Taos Habitat for Humanity is an “open” site, meaning that we accept individual RVs all year long. So, if you are in the area, please call to see if we have room for your rig. We can always use your help. Call Care-a-Vanner Help Desk 1-800-422-4828 for more information.

Church GroupsWe can handle groups of from 3–30 people at a time. Many youth groups come to experience Northern New Mexico by not only enjoying our amenities but by giving of themselves by ministering to families in need.We work with all ages from 14 years on up, so, if your church has a group of young or mature people – men's groups, women's groups or mission trips – we can use you.
High SchoolsMany schools are requiring community service hours to graduate. We have been able to help many of them get their credit hours by working on Habitat homes. Not only do they get their community service hours, but supplement the trip with some education and fun, from a float trip down the Rio Grande to a tour of one of the oldest pueblos in the United States.
Local GroupsLocal groups and organizations are not only welcome but badly needed. Rotary, Lions, Kit Carson Electric, The Town of Taos, The Taos Association of Realtors and many more have committed to working a day out at a Habitat site. The local volunteers are a vital part of our organization. Please contact our office and we will be happy to present Habitat for Humanity of Taos to your group. We can schedule an individual meeting or a presentation about what Habitat is doing. You may also call our office directly to schedule a work day.
IndividualsAll are welcome to participate. We need volunteers at the work site, office and ReStore. Whether you can pound nails, enter data on a computer, stuff envelopes or sort and sell merchandise, we can use your help. |
