Habitat for Humanity of Taos has been serving the Taos community since 1993, building and renovating homes for families in need of affordable housing. As part of the global Habitat for Humanity movement, the Taos affiliate is committed to bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Through the hard work of volunteers, partner families, and donors, Habitat for Humanity of Taos provides safe, affordable homes, making a lasting impact on local lives. The organization also focuses on educating families on sustainable homeownership and strengthening the fabric of the Taos community through collaboration and compassion.

Perhaps the most significant after-effect is on the Habitat volunteers who join us in building projects, who almost unanimously agree that the personal benefits to their lives always exceed their own financial contributions, time and effort — and that this incentive lasts for years in the future, or for a lifetime.

Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Our organization works in partnership with individuals and families in need of affordable housing, mobilizing volunteers, donors, and community members to create safe, decent, and affordable homes. Our mission extends beyond just building houses. We also focus on fostering long-term community development and empowering families through education and support in sustainable homeownership.
Our Vision
Habitat for Humanity's vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. This vision is driven by the belief that affordable, safe, and stable housing is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone for breaking the cycle of poverty.
Our Projects
Thanks to a dedicated community and hardworking volunteers, we've built 39 homes in Taos, allowing us to directly change the lives of 39 seperate families.
Through other Habitat programs, like "Brush With Kindness", we've helped support our community in smaller ways with minor home repairs and aging in place programs.
Our Hope
As living costs continue to rise while wages remain stagnant, more and more families are facing housing insecurity, unable to afford safe, stable homes.
However, Habitat for Humanity of Taos is working tirelessly to combat this issue. Through the support of donors and volunteers, we are creating pathways to affordable homeownership, offering a hand up rather than a handout. Families in need can break the cycle of housing insecurity, build a stable future, and create long lasting positive change for their children.
Our mission extends beyond just building houses; it’s about strengthening communities and fostering a sense of belonging. Every home built represents a stronger, more inclusive Taos where everyone has the dignity of a safe place to live.
