Habitat Taos' new headquarters making great progress.

My Turn from the Taos News 3/31/2016

Habitat’s new headquarters making great progress

It’s a bird, It’s a plane, no ... it’s the future office of Habitat for Humanity of Taos that you see on Salazar Road! Nope, it isn’t a house that’s our future headquarters. We’re excited about reducing our overhead costs and having our new office in a much more visible location.

You may have seen some activity there lately. That’s our construction supervisor, Mark Trujillo, working with local volunteers. HFHT received an interest-free loan to finish building to at least a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy, so we can hopefully move in by April.

You also may have noticed PPC Solar installing a system on the south side of the building. It selected Habitat for Humanity of Taos as its nonprofit of choice in 2015 and donated a system to us.

Thank you, PPC Solar! We got as far as we could with the Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant awarded in 2014. Then in 2015 we were blessed with much-needed assistance from the Taos County Association of Realtors, who helped raise money and volunteered with several build days, as well as holding a fabulous Parade of Homes event last summer. All of this to help us get into our new digs sooner rather than later. Thanks, TCAR!

If you would like to help at the office, in any capacity, please contact us at (575) 758-7827.

It’s been exciting seeing the progress, and we’re hoping to move in by spring. Look for more details and an invitation to an open house celebration of our new home.

Cynthia Arvidson is the executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Taos.
