My Time Volunteering for Habitat for Humanity of Taos

I have volunteered for a lot of things, mostly school and church events but never have I ever helped volunteer to build a house.

When our school (Global Experience Magnet School AKA GEMS) first asked for volunteers, I wanted to sign up right away. I just wish more students from our school had the opportunity to enjoy our time there.
After we got to Taos and took in some of the sites we began working on building the houses from the bottom up … and I literally mean from the bottom up.

The instructor Mark explained how everything needed to be done, for example, the amount of dirt and cement needed to be mixed together or how to use an electric screw driver for the pieces of wood that needed to be nailed together. Even if you don’t believe it, helping to build a house was a lot more fun than I thought it would be, I mean sure it is a lot of work but when you have friends with you it can turn into a lot of fun.

There were students from school who I had never talked to but once we started working it was easier to get to know one another a lot better. So my advice to those out there who are reading this is that you, your family, and friends should also take part in volunteering for Habitat for Humanity of Taos.

You would not only be building houses you would also be building strong bonds with the people around you and take part in a chance to helping someone get a home.
